We are free to choose

Viktor E. Frankl

We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

– Viktor E. Frankl (Psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor)

  1. Having lived in Europe including Poland, the quote takes on real meaning – to have some appreciation of its context is mind chillin. I’ve blogged about the concentration camp at Mjandek — you might want to read it also. Thanks for the quote/

    • I know, it’s really shocking and powerful stuff isn’t it. Have you read Frankl’s book ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, which is what the quote is from? It’s remarkable!
I’ll be sure to look up your post. Thanks :-)
