Small ways to spread happiness

Fishing with style is a way to make tourists smile while earning your daily bread

Everyone can make a difference. Everyone has some small way to spread happiness and make the world shine a little brighter.

Last week, while traveling at Inle Lake in Myanmar (Burma) I met this ingenious young man. While eking out a living as a fisherman he noticed tourists snapping photos of the unique and beautiful fishing style that’s evolved on the lake.

A-ha, he must have thought! If I fish in slow motion then tourists can see how we do it and take beautiful photos home to show their friends and family. And that’s just what he does, and earns some pretty tips in the process.

He’s a type of performance artist, like the human statues you see when you walk along London’s south bank on a weekend afternoon. And he surprises and delights many tourists when he starts dancing with his basket.

Just think what you’re good at. Perhaps, like Mr. Fisherman, you can find a way to put a smile on someone’s dial while still earning your daily bread.
